Moving Tips

Sterling Sinclair Removals are always happy to provide expert advice to make your move a stress-free one.  We always recommend getting as organised as you possibly can so that you can work in unison with our removals team and be fully prepared for moving day.  We are always just a phone call away from getting expert and professional advice.  However, please refer to this moving guide for tips for planning well in advance.

What To Do A Month Before Your Move

Four weeks before your move is the time to really start planning and preparing.  It’s essential to arrange the date for your removal as soon as possible and to confirm any special requirements that you have for our team.  This is so that we can best prepare all requirements such as providing the appropriate packing materials and preparing our fully equipped vehicles.  Other tips we recommend and advise one before your move include;-

  • Confirm your storage needs.
  • Begin to declutter and clearing out your property of any items you no longer want or need.
  • Start preparing and looking into your new area/location.
  • Check that you have ordered all relevant packing materials with us.
  • Reconfirm terms and special requirements.

A Fortnight Before Your Move

A fortnight before your move means that you are getting ever closer to moving day.  This is the stage where you may start to get a little more stressed about getting everything prepared.  However, if you follow the following tips, you will have everything under control:

  • If you have any direct debits, loans or standing orders, ensure the details are updated to your new address.
  • Arrange private healthcare information within your new area.
  • Notify all utility providers about your change of address.
  • Submit address changes to the DVLA to ensure your driver’s licence is updated and correct.
  • Start organising key files and documents and put them in a safe place.

It’s also recommended begin emptying your fridges and freezers. Make sure to defrost your freezer before moving day so that our team can efficiently remove the appliance to take to your new destination.  If you have pets, it’s also recommended that you start to arrange transit for them so that they can be looked after during your move.  Moreover, begin to clear the contents of your garage and outdoor spaces.

What To Do The Day Before Your Move

Depending on the packing service that you have chosen, you may want to begin packing specific items.  If you have selected the self-packing or part-packing service, packing can start at this stage.  One day before your move and before our removers turn up, it’s ideal to also empty and drain dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers.  Other moving tips include;-

  • Charge all devices you take with you, e.g. mobile phones and IPads.
  • Pack drinks and food for the journey the next day.
  • Ensure that non-fragile items are properly sealed if you are DIY packing.
  • Leave out critical documents in sealed files that are easily accessible.
  • Call our team if you have any last-minute queries.

On Moving Day

Moving day can be really stressful but with the help of our fully uniformed and qualified professionals, it will transition like clockwork.  There are a number of things you can do on moving day to make life easier for all and to ensure that there is no delay time.  Check out our ‘’on moving day’’ tips below:

  • Removing bedding from all rooms and label it so that it can easily be sorted later.
  • Ensure that arrangements are in place for pet and child travel.
  • Make sure what items are NOT being taken to your new destination
  • Keep any documents safe, especially those relating to your possessions in storage.
  • Take photographs of the final readings on your energy meters as proof and submit the readings to your energy supplier.
  • After everything has been loaded onto the removals van, do a final sweep of the property to ensure everything needing to be moved has been loaded.
  • On arrival at your new property, communicate effectively with our team to ensure that we are placing your personal possessions and items in your preferred spaces. By labelling each door in the property the moving team will be able to efficiently route your items to the correct room.
